Matt Martin is a shareholder and practices in the acquisitions, new course development, water rights and natural resources and employment law areas of the Firm.  Mr. Martin is in his eleventh year of practice and has been representing clients in the golf, clubs and resorts industry for nine years.

Mr. Martin has extensive experience representing clients developing and acquiring golf clubs and country clubs.  This representation includes drafting and negotiating acquisition documents, development documents and loan documents, and performing due diligence reviews.

Mr. Martin heads the Firm’s Water Rights and Natural Resources Section.  Mr. Martin represents clients in due diligence reviews of water rights, water rights permitting and in auditing existing water sources.

Mr. Martin also has extensive experience representing golf clubs and country clubs in operations memberships and employment matters.  He has negotiated and drafted numerous types of operations contracts.  He has drafted and advised clients on membership matters such as membership bylaws, rules and regulations, and membership applications.  He also has counseled clients on employment matters, including discrimination claims, wage and hour issues, and employee vs. independent contractor determination.  In addition, he has represented clients in discrimination claims before the EEOC and various states’ civil rights agencies.

Mr. Martin is a member of the American Bar Association, the State Bar of Texas and the Real Estate and Environmental and Natural Resources Sections of the State Bar of Texas.  Mr. Martin received his bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Notre Dame and his law degree from Southern Methodist University.
